WHO IS EASTERN EDGE?
Eastern Edge is a non-profit artist-run centre. Membership is open to anyone who makes art or has an interest in art. Eastern Edge provides opportunities to contribute new art to our lives: new ideas, questions, awareness, sensibilities and responsibility. We operate through a collective decision making process. The membership annually elects a Board of Directors, which is responsible for the operation and programming. We respond to community needs as well as initiate programming-our focus is the work being done now by both established and emerging artists here and elsewhere. Artists can submit proposals consisting of images (CD, j-pegs), video/audio material, curriculum vitae, support materials (press, publications, website url etc.), sase, estimated budget for complex projects and project description; we also accept proposals from curators who would like to research themes in contemporary art. Eastern Edge is a venue for artists working in all disciplines of art: visual, spatial, aural, music, movement, film, video, performance.
The gallery is available to groups and individuals for performance and rehearsal space, film and video screenings, meetings, poetry readings and other events. Eastern Edge is a member of ARCCC-CCCAA (The national Association of Artist Run Centres) and AARCA (The Atlantic Association of Artist Run Centres). Eastern Edge is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, the City of St. John’s, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Cultural Economic Development Program, private donations and the energy of individual supporters and volunteers.
